Even if you would need to install entire x11/xorg metaport, you can do that at the end of upgrade. If after upgrade you don't find anything missing then it shouldn't be necessary, but it's rather difficult to say in general. Not having the metaport installed will mostly affect users of xorg-server because of missing fonts and drivers that have been split up; users that have parts of X11 only as dependencies for some graphics tools less so.
