BUY A UNIX Sysadmin book! :-)
Seriously, we all started somewhere, and I have certainly asked my fair
share of newbie questions of various lists as I started on the road to
ISP-dom several years ago, but you'll save yourself a lot of grief by
curling up at night to a good Unix Sysadmin book (there's an old wives tale
that if you fall asleep reading a "textbook" (e.g. not a fiction book) that
all the information therein will be absorbed into your brain over the
course of several nights ;-)

If you added aliases to /etc/aliases, and ran the "newaliases" command,
I do not believe you need to restart sendmail.
But if you do, see the man page for the "kill" and "ps" commands.
