FWIW I have connected a USB DVD recorder to a Mac and both burnt and =
read DVDs so I know it definitely works.

The fact it can't read the CD suggests that perhaps the emulated file =
system on it is not valid.

PS I am not sure how much MacOS help you'll get on a FreeBSD mailing =
list..
