(To Kris et al) No, I didn't expect parallel make of the kernel to give me problems. Cyrille asked if it was possible, I hadn't done it up til now, and I simply verified that it did work. No surprises. Yes, I'm fully aware that make -j4 means that more resources are being allocated that a simple single thread make. I felt that SETI was being slowed down more that my normal make -j(6-8) buildworld usually does. But, this is what I felt, meaning it's not a very strong proof of this actually reflecting the behaviour. Yes, I have a SMP system and do parallel builds on a regular basis. The Handbook suggests -j flags in the area of 6 to 8. I've done some tests and we are talking a few minutes difference between 4 to 8, where a build takes about 70 mins. The total time should drop somewhat on Thursday when I get the new CPU:s (party! :-) As I said, it was for kicks - and to answer Cyrilles question. -- Cheers!
