This isn't a taxonomy suggestion, it's a documented requirement: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/porters-handbook/makefile-depend.html#USE-VARS This often trips up users. See the (Note). If there are lurking uses of WITH_ or WITHOUT_ in port Makefiles where USE_ is intended, they are bugs. mcl
