I should add that in my successful configuration, I have gone back to a "stock" sysconfig file. No named, no gated, no default route (aside from the one in ppp.conf), no funny flags to routed. I did try adding some lines to /etc/rc.local which had the same effect as the correct configuration of ppp.conf, but those are commented out now that ppp.conf is doing the job on its own. In fact it was fiddling with those lines (an ifconfig and a route add) that I hammered out the correct netmask, etc., and first got things working. Then I moved the magic into ppp.conf, once I thought I understood what was going on. Mike O'Brien
