Moreover, in case you want to re-configure something (f.e. when system changed), in usr.bin variant you risk to overwrite config.h but not in contrib variant. GNU sources in contrib not mixed with FreeBSD sources in usr.bin, which is more convinient. I think moving pre-existen history to contib is not a big deal. -- Andrey A.
