Are these two errors relevant? And I do find nothing in th= e home directory.

I think you'll need to add some more information, esp abou= t the (graphics) HW you're using. The freebsd-x11 may be a better group= to carry on this discussion ... have you looked in the archives (https://lists.freebsd.org/)?

good luck!

Please note, I used a lowercase "x" in ".x= session-errors.log".

I also did not offer to look at your Xorg.0.log file for = you (sorry, but I won't open an attachment just like that) :-)... It= 9;s fairly readable, look for lines containing "(EE)" (errors), t= hose will normally give you an idea of whats=C2=A0going on

=EF=BB=BFHello, I am trying to instal= l CDE to have a look of it. After installing Xorg using pkg on 12.3-Release= , I installed CDE through package, and follow the instructions on the pkg message:

This is ancient software that is ported for curiosity purposes. It is= unlikely to be useful in everyday use, and should not be used in untrusted= environments as there are highly likely to be unresolved security issues. It is also necessary to enable the Subproce= ss Control Service (and dtcms for the calendar to work). # sysrc rpcbind_en= able=3Dyes # sysrc dtcms_enable=3Dyes # sysrc inetd_enable=3Dyes # service = rpcbind start && service dtcms start and Add the following line to /etc/inetd.conf: dtspc stream tcp nowait root /u= sr/local/dt/bin/dtspcd /usr/local/dt/bin/dtspcd and to /etc/services: dtspc= 6112/tcp # CDE Subprocess Control Service To start the Common Desktop Envi= ronment, % ln -s /usr/local/dt/bin/Xsession ~/.Xsession % env LANG=3DC startx If you want to use dtlogin as well, you&= #39;ll need to create /usr/local/etc/X11/Xwrapper.config and add this line:= allowed_users=3Danybody

But it just started XDM, what=E2=80=99s wrong with= it?

have you looked in /var/log/X*.log (do= n't have the precise name nor a FreeBSD system handy)?=

Also, there may be a file ".xsess= ion-error*" in your $HOME - check whether there's anything useful = there.
