You should probably add to that, the mortars, frigates and lancers for
the British of that time.

You should also add the squad machine guns, mortars, C4, Apaches and
Claymores for todays British.

Most of the tactical weapons are useless in a guerrilla action, which
is why there will always be men in the mud. 

With greater odds, Victor Charlie cleaned our collective clock.
Logical assumptions get you killed in a fight, no matter which side
you're on.
