Yes, it will read and write...
but I did notice that the kernel complains about the geometry when you
do the mount. Perhaps someone can elaborate about the difference in
handling the disk geometry. Specifically (regarding SCSI disk at least):

o Why does the 2.0.5 kernel complain about partition/disk size mismatch
when mounting a partition created by 2.0?
o Why does 2.0.5 require you to use the DOS geometry (where the numbers
are fudged so that 1 MB = 1 cylinder) as opposed to 2.0 which used the
actual disk geometry as stored in /etc/disktab?
o Why is there a small blob of disk space left over in the install
   partition utility?
o How is the -u argument to newfs computed in the install utility?
It uses some fairly bizarre numbers which are obviously optimized
to waste as little space as possible at the end of the filesystem.

Also, several people have written to the hackers list compaining about
the lack of decent fdisk/partitioning utilities in the OS. I agree, but
I've just been using the boot disk utility, and reseting the machine
after the newfses are done. Clunky, but in a pinch...
