When I added this patch, someone warned me of exactly this problem we've be=
en
seeing. Moving the patch to the tree would've proved him right, and I just
could not do that...

Anyway, Bug 281680 now contains the upgrade to 4.0 (which already incorpora=
tes
the controversial patch and a couple of others). Please, test and provide
feedback there.
