I filled in the domainname setting in /etc/sysconfig so I could use NIS, and the machine hangs during the boot sequence, while trying to set the multicast and loopback routes. Eventually it prints a message similar to clnttcp_create: RPC: potmapper failure - RPC: Timed out and carries on. What causes this? 2. Why can't I have a line in /etc/exports that exports a file system to more than one netgroup? I have /local/etc cshosts1 cshosts2 cshosts3 in my /etc/exports, where cshosts[123] are valid netgroups obtained by NIS. mountd reports Dec 6 15:53:16 solander mountd[92]: Can't change attributes for /local/etc. Dec 6 15:53:16 solander mountd[92]: Bad exports list line /local/etc cshosts1 cshosts2 cshosts3 Using just one of these groups is fine. Ideas, anyone? Cheers, Simon -- Simon Marlow simonm@dcs.gla.ac.uk Research Assistant http://www.dcs.gla.ac.uk/~simonm/ finger for PGP public key
