I have developed on Interbase 5.1 before, and it is a solid commercial database which provides many of the integrity etc. features still lacking form the current crop of open source databases. (Though Postgres will get there in the end, I believe.) Though they canvassed the opinion of FreeBSD users during the run-up to this open source release, the eventual release provides binaries only for Linux, Solaris and Windows. And the source, of course, under a variant of MPL 1.1. I currently lack the time and probably the knowledge to port something this big, but it should be done. And I'm willing ot help if need be.
