make sure you have the /usr/share/skel directory defined for the dotfiles
with adduser.  sysinstall seems to install these by default unless you
have it otherwise defined in /etc/pw.conf.  It's also definable with
adduser by just typing adduser alone and creating a /etc/adduser.conf.
With the contributed dotfiles /usr/local/bin should be included in the
PATH.
