Yes....you need to check /etc/ttys

there will be a line in there for your serial console somewhat like this:

ttyd0  "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" vt100 off secure
std.9600 is the bps rate of the console.  Change it to whatever you want.  I
don't know the best way to get getty to reread /etc/ttys, though.  Perhaps
sending it a NOHUP or killing it.  A reboot seems a little extreme, although
that would work.  (I am sure it isn't neccesary, though)

Anyways, the man page for ttys has some usefull info.
