Ther= e's also concerns about users foot-shooting if the option is available, see https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D257623 We do have ports that require static libraries however we also have a lot of "unused" ones enabled at least as far as the ports tree goes.
