I was getting a metric butt-ton of DCOPServer errors upon starting KDE so I installed XFree86-4.1.0_10 from the ports on FreeBSD 4.4. Upon installing, I could "startx" as root and get to KDE, but not as user. Following the instructions presented upon the X fail, I installed wrapper-1.0_1 from ports. Upon attempting to re-start X (and thus KDE), I am told that there is an existing X session, so I log off and log back in as user. Upon "startx" I am told I must install wrapper or SUID the X server, which is not recommended. pkg_info says that wrapper is installed. A search of the mailing list archives tells me to set my security level=0 in rc.conf. Done. Still no joy. A trip through FreeBSD Unleashed, The Complete FreeBSD, and Annelies' book haven't answered my question, at least to my (admittedly limited) understanding. I did catch teh make.conf refernce and created it accordingly I am having to run as root since I am a recent Window$ convert and am still not quite ready for 100% command line, but i would desperately love to "graduate" to fvwm. Running as root makes me nervous, since I am liable to munge something up inadvertantly or otherwise. I would greatly appreciate some help with this.
