Ah, that's different than your GUI getting screwed. To me, that means
a crash. Recovery is a separate thing because it generally doesn't
start up under your normal NT kernel.
But yes, this is a point I have lamented for quite some time. A real,
useful NT command line accessible from "single-user" boot would be a
Very Good Thing. On the other hand, you can approximate this by
putting your boot partition on FAT instead of NTFS, and booting into
DOS. But that only gets you part way there, since real NT utilities
won't run that way.
