All I want to have is TeX (tex -> dvi, pdf) and dvips (dvi -> ps). I don't want xdvi and stuff; it's a server hosting a repository of *.tex papers. root@ns:/usr/ports/print/teTeX# make install clean ===> Installing for teTeX-3.0 ===> teTeX-3.0 depends on file: /usr/local/share/texmf-local/ls-R - found ===> teTeX-3.0 depends on file: /usr/local/share/texmf-dist/LICENSE.texmf - not found ===> Verifying install for /usr/local/share/texmf-dist/LICENSE.texmf in /usr/ports/print/teTeX-texmf ===> teTeX-texmf-3.0_3 depends on file: /usr/local/share/texmf-local/ls-R - found ===> teTeX-texmf-3.0_3 depends on file: /usr/local/share/fonts/cmpsfont/README - not found ===> Verifying install for /usr/local/share/fonts/cmpsfont/README in /usr/ports/print/cmpsfont ===> cmpsfont-1.0_3 depends on file: /usr/local/bin/type1inst - not found ===> Verifying install for /usr/local/bin/type1inst in /usr/ports/x11-fonts/p5-type1inst ===> Extracting for p5-type1inst-0.6.1_2 => Checksum OK for type1inst-0.6.1.tar.gz. ===> p5-type1inst-0.6.1_2 depends on file: /usr/local/bin/perl5.8.6 - found ===> Patching for p5-type1inst-0.6.1_2 ===> p5-type1inst-0.6.1_2 depends on file: /usr/local/bin/perl5.8.6 - found ===> Applying FreeBSD patches for p5-type1inst-0.6.1_2 ===> p5-type1inst-0.6.1_2 depends on file: /usr/local/bin/perl5.8.6 - found ===> p5-type1inst-0.6.1_2 depends on shared library: X11.6 - found ===> Configuring for p5-type1inst-0.6.1_2 ===> Installing for p5-type1inst-0.6.1_2 ===> p5-type1inst-0.6.1_2 depends on executable: mkfontdir - not found ===> Verifying install for mkfontdir in /usr/ports/x11/xorg-clients If you want to use xterm with locales in a secure manner, luit must be installed setuid. If you want to do this, define WITH_SETUID_LUIT when installing this port (either in /etc/make.conf or on command line with install target). ===> Extracting for xorg-clients-6.8.2 => Checksum OK for xorg/X11R6.8.2-src1.tar.gz. => Checksum OK for xorg/X11R6.8.2-src2.tar.gz. => Checksum OK for xorg/X11R6.8.2-src3.tar.gz. So I end up installing xorg-clients-6.8.2. print/teTeX dos have no WITHOUT_X11. I tried the following: grep -r WITHOUT_ /usr/ports/print/te* /usr/ports/print/teTeX-base/Makefile:.if !defined(WITHOUT_X11) So the only TeX port which provides me with the possibility to say that I don't want X is teTeX-base. But that stays away from the dependencies shown above. Before trying any of this, I thoroughly deinstalled all of TeX and friends && rm -rf /usr/local/share/tex* I didn't have this problem with teTeX-2x. Has anyone had any luck with this? Thanks Jan
