A little background... The machine is a 1ghz Athlon, with 640MB of ram. There is a vr0 device, a de0 device, and sis0 device and an ath0 device. The ath0 device is a TP-Link TL-WN650G. This means the antenna is actually built on to the card, and cannot be removed. The operating system of the machine is actually pfSense 1.2-RC4, which is based on FreeBSD 6.2. Linux reports this Atheros card (and another that I also had similar issues with) as 02:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01) Basically what I come up with is, when in ap mode, cards can connect, however I cannot push any traffic through the Atheros card. This was tested with a DWL-G650, a Cisco Aironet 350, an Orinoco Gold Classic, as well as a Broadcom 4318 card. All of them can connect to the Atheros card, but no traffic gets passed, and I cannot ping the ap either. the output of athstats is (with no cards connected): # athstats 1 hardware error interrupts 525 tx management frames 831 tx frames discarded prior to association 10 tx stopped 'cuz no xmit buffer 232 tx failed 'cuz FIFO underrun 1110 tx failed 'cuz bogus xmit rate 368 tx frames with rts enabled 720 tx frames with an alternate rate 6032 rx failed 'cuz of FIFO overrun 2875 rx management frames 161904 beacon setup failed 'cuz no mbuf 379518991 beacons transmitted 588 periodic calibration failures 21 tx used alternate antenna Antenna profile: [2] tx 766 rx 4802 [3] tx 341 rx 0 And if I attempt to connect a card, I get: # athstats 1 hardware error interrupts 559 tx management frames 21779 tx frames discarded prior to association 10 tx stopped 'cuz no xmit buffer 238 tx failed 'cuz FIFO underrun 1154 tx failed 'cuz bogus xmit rate 392 tx frames with rts enabled 737 tx frames with an alternate rate 6101 rx failed 'cuz of FIFO overrun 2898 rx management frames 164038 beacon setup failed 'cuz no mbuf 1822242855 beacons transmitted 596 periodic calibration failures 449 tx used alternate antenna Antenna profile: [2] tx 11248 rx 25151 [3] tx 10836 rx 632 This is a new card (the TL-WN650G) - so I am wondering if maybe I just happened to have gotten a bad card? Any light that can be shed on this would be greatly appreciated. The pfSense irc channel is not extremely active so I haven't gotten much help out of them as to anything that pfSense itself does, so I can better troubleshoot.
