Had this myself a while back.
Here's the answer I got from Travis (thanks again, wherever you are) :

The "-ERR POP EOF" messages are caused by Netscape Mail when it checks
for mail and there is none waiting.
I guess Netscape Mail says "FINE" and hangs up quite prematurely/rudely
;)
