Ah, too bad I haven't seen this earlier. I've been through the same problems with a NEC Versa 6030X lately. The damned thing would just hang with the default settings of INT 10 IO 300 if the zp driver tried to probe it. No way to reconfigure with 3Com's diagnostic tools since it wouldn't find the card. At least I knew that the card itself wasn't broken since Win95% did work. I finally found out throught trial and error that the diagnostics would work if they were running under DOS <= 6.22. Then I could reconfigure the card, use the settings with the 2.2A boot disk, diddle link0 and link1 settings till packets went out and finally install FreeBSD. Now I'm using the PAO stuff with the ep driver which works fine except that the link0 and link1 options obviously are swapped in comparison with zp0 :) That 1024 * 768 display *really* is nice - works fine with the latest XFree86.
