USB Modem stalls when accessing Web sites.

I am able to get the version of umodem.c in current  to dial and
connect.
Once the ppp link is established I can  ping and ftp but accessing  http

stalls.

Has anyone else seen this problem when using a USB Modem with 4.1R?
