Realtime and multimedia is becoming more predominant.  (In fact, isn't multimedia
more predominant than anything else now -- if you count games, etc.)  Schedulers
have been researched fairly well, but it seems that some of the research really
needs to be brought into free software.

Your observations/application types seem to be exactly the kind of thing that need
to be supported by future OSes.
