     When I compiled XEmacs 19.12, I just used the standard
distribution.  I didn't bother with the ports directory, and XEmacs
compiled without any problems (except that I had to edit out a semicolon
in src/Makefile).  Of course, I did install X11R6, Xpm, & gmake.  Also,
configure didn't use GNU malloc() or reallocating buffers; I think that
it's possible to use these with FreeBSD, but I didn't bother to try
fixing it.
