FreeBSD gunhead.enforcer.cc 7.1-RELEASE-p2 FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE-p2 #2: Sun Feb 15 22:10:56 CET 2009 root@gunhead.enforcer.cc:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GUNHEAD i386
>Description:
Since I have updated this machine to FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE-p2 / Xorg 7.4, I am experiencing the problem, that as soon as I start the X server (either by using startx, xdm or gdm), I get the following error message on the system console:

usb3: unrecoverable error, controller halted
usb3: blocking intrs 0x10

The only USB device that is connected, is a USB scanner. Mouse/Keyboard are both PS/2. Disconnecting the USB scanner and trying it with no USB devices attached at all, yields the same error message.

As long as I don't start X, everythings works as expected, i.e. I can use the sane-find-scanner and scanimage programs to test for scanner presence and aquire an image from it, without seeing any USB related errors.

Enabling USB_DEBUG in the kernel did not come up with any additional info as to what may cause the error message.

xorg-server on this machine is 1.5.3_5,1

I have tried the following without any change to the problem:

- Build xorg-server with/without HAL enabled
- Using the proprietary NVIDIA driver 96.43.10 with NVIDIA AGP
- Using the nv driver with FreeBSD agp

Hardware setup:

- Fujitsu Siemens (MSI) MS-6585 2.0A Mainboard
- SiS 648/963 chipset
- NVIDIA GeForce 4Ti 4200 with AGP8X
