The simplest solution may be to buy a cheap ethernet card and give that a permanent address, say 192.168.1.1. Give this interface a name in your /etc/hosts file and make this the system name. UNIX is showing its age in this area; the mapping between the system name and multiple, perhaps temporary IP addresses is not well thought out.
