Subject:   Reason for device name changes

I'm just curious as to the reasoning behind the new naming conventions in
FreeBSD 3.x for the disk devices (for example, /dev/sd0 is now /dev/da0).

Has this managed to break any programs/scripts yet?  My guess is quite a 
few....
