I read the first line that says "The su utility requests appropriate
user credentials via PAM and switches to that user ID (the default user
is the superuser)" as "'su -' and 'su - root' are equivalent".

su -l root as the expected behaviour (resetting $LOGNAME to $USER),
thanks a lot.
