I have: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root lemis 5646507 Jan 27 14:52 /src/FreeBSD/5-RELEASE-SYDNEY/src/sys/i386/compile/SYDNEY/kernel -rwxr-xr-x 1 root lemis 31120011 Jan 27 14:51 /src/FreeBSD/5-RELEASE-SYDNEY/src/sys/i386/compile/SYDNEY/kernel.debug As you see, this is in the kernel build directory. There's no point in actually installing it into /boot. Also note: $ du -s /src/FreeBSD/5-RELEASE-SYDNEY/src/sys/i386/compile/SYDNEY 513 /src/FreeBSD/5-RELEASE-SYDNEY/src/sys/i386/compile/SYDNEY That's in MB. It does take up a lot of space.
