It works great set at 2 and since / is within the first 2 gig so this isn't an issue at all. I think the 8 choice is more the result of the Windows world where they install everything on the c drive and first time they patch the kernel it gets relocated so a place on the drive that the bios can't get to it. The BSD world is smarter than that :) The Mylex documentation recommends that it be left at 2 unless you have a real good reason to change it. They also say that the array won't need to be rebuilt but you will have to reformat the drive at an OS level. Is your set at 8 or 2 when it works?
