FreeBSD's mount requires root authority. Linux has a "user" option in their fstab, presumably allowing an average user to mount that device. I've worked around the problem in KDE by creating mount and umount object which call sudo (and I added user to sudoers with NOPASSWD option). This hack is ugly and embarrassing when Linux friends visit.
