I found this problem on two computers 1. PC Processor: Intel PIII 550MHz/256KB Cache Motherboard: AOpen AX6BC Memory: 128 MB 2. PC Processor: Intel PIII 500MHz/156KB Cache Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-6BXC Memory: 256 MB If I boot from the CD-ROM sysinstall starts and hangs while probing the devices. The last message on the debug screen was like "Found a network device lp0". I could reproduce this problem with the following CD-ROMs: FreeBSD 4.0 Snapshot June 1999 FreeBSD 3.3 Release with 4 CD-ROMs bought via SuSE Germany FreeBSD 4.0 Release The Problem didn't occurs with a recorded 4.0 ISO-Image from ftp.freebsd.org. Since I changed the processor on PC 2 to a Intel PIII 550MHz/256KB Cache the problem also didn't occurs.
