Maybe you're missing the environment variable TERM=xterm-256color or 
the value appropriate for tmux.

This is run in tmux:

$ echo $TERM
screen-256color

which should be fine.

Running a test script in tmux which tests for 256 colours works fine.

I thought about asking this on weechat's list but on a Debian machine
with the same tmux+weechat configuration everything works fine.
