First, you might want to check with the FreeBSD mail archives. Also, are dual-booting with some Windows machine that's requiring busmastering? Have you tried going into the BIOS, and turning off UDMA support (although I could've sworn I ran a machine with UDMA with FreeBSD 3.x)? Hope this gives you a good starting point...
