The 3c509b doesn't use the xl driver.  It uses the 'ep' driver.

If the submitter doesn't realize what card he has or what driver he should
be using...

I think Bill's rant usually ends with 'oh, and try setting 'PNP OS?' to
'NO' in your BIOS'.
