Can you please be more specific as to why it doesn't work righ?  I need
details here, my mindreader isn't currently functioning...:)

OK, this is the danger sign.  Don't mount this partition anymore, you run
a pretty good risk of destroying it and your BSD partition.  If yuou're
running 2.1.7.1 you're probably ok.

Which packages are busted?  There is a known bug that will cause odd
problems with big pakcages such as xemacs.
