The best way I've found to approach this potential dilemma is to first choose whichever install option pleases you, i.e.; x-developer or regular user w' x windows, include a few extra packages that you've already heard about or that interest you. This shouldn't be too difficult, since the packages are listed by catagory. Then later, after you've successfully installed FreeBSD, you can do some research on different packages (choose which one's are of interest) and install them later with /stand/sysinstall. Also, if I remember correctly, each package included on the CD ROM set includes a brief description of what each package is/does. > > > I tripped over this one, too.

My recollection is that "Package
Selection" is just an opportunity to modify what you already picked
as a group when you picked "X-developer", but my recollections are too
often faulty to trust.

I'm Cc:ing the newbies list, as you did, because that seems a reasonable
place for this discussion, but if anyone expects me to see replies there
it won't happen.  I've tried twice to subscribe and it never seems to
take, though majordomo replies to me like it has.
