It looks like you come from a System V background.  System V looks on
networking as an "add-on", and keeps networking code in separate
libraries.  BSD looks on networking as part of the system, and it
keeps the functions in the standard C library.  Just remove the
-libsocket and -libnsl options from your Makefile, and everything
should be OK.
