I am not sue why a reference to GCC 4.4 was introduced here recently, but we ought to avoid specific version numbers (and especially 4.4, which is really on its way out). For example, if ports are installed in an unfortunate order, this can lead to an extra version of GCC being installed, when another port then requires GCC 4.6 or USE_GCC=yes. Gerald
