As I've mentioned in an earlier posting, it is a fundamental part of the FSF's agenda and philosophy to oppose not only the existence of commercial developers but also the existence of ANYTHING that offers aid or comfort to these "enemies." (Yes, that means the BSDs, since they offer an alternative to developers who want to use freely available code rather than reimplementing -- needlessly -- from scratch.) This makes the presence of the GPL -- the FSF's primary instrument of warfare against all that it does not control -- a clear and present danger to the BSDs.
