I've set up a printer "lp" in /etc/printcap: # @(#)printcap 5.3 (Berkeley) 6/30/90 lp|local line printer:\ :lp=/dev/lpt0:sd=/var/spool/output/lpd:lf=/var/log/lpd-errs: and set lptcontrol as both interrupt-driven and polled. Upon a reboot, I can send a request for printing, like: # lpr sample.text but the printer head just makes a bit of noise, and nothing gets printed. Subsequent print requests don't make it to the printer either, and the print head doesn't rattle at all. Instead, everything gets piled up in /var/spool/output/lpd, where it sits forever (or at least until I lprm 'em). I've tried everything I can think of using lpc, lptcontrol, lpd and /etc/printcap. What's worse is I can still print files by using # cat sample.text > /dev/lpt0 so I know it's not a hardware fault. Please help me! What am I doing wrong here?
