Yuck. :(  Try installing 2.2.6 then rebuilding a kernel with PnP
installed.  It might pick up the modem.  Hopefully this isn't like the
Winmodem which requires programming :(

There's a program called `fbsdboot' you can run to start the kernel.  It
overwrites the DOS memory image so to get back you have to reboot.
