When I boot, I get this message: ata1-master: FAILURE - SETFEATURES SET TRANSFER MODE no interrupt ata1-master: FAILURE - SETFEATURES SET TRANSFER MODE no interrupt acd0: CDRW at ata1-master BIOSPIO acd1: DVDROM at ata1-slave UDMA33 This behavior is actually an improvement over that of 5.2-RELEASE-p2. With 5.2-RELEASE-p2, I would see similar failure messages at boot, and then the system would freeze up, unless I booted with a CD in the drive. I gather people with LITE-ON CD-RW drives had a similar experience. Apparently my TDK drive is broken in the same way as the LITE-ON drives. -- Russell Hanneken rghanneken@pobox.com Remove the 'g' from my address to send me mail.
