"sequencer1: <???> at 0x388 (not functional)", isn't this telling me
initialization didn't complete? That was the gist of my questions about
other peripherials possibly interfering. My STB 4-COM board is not using
0x388. Don't believe anything else is either. Or maybe I'm wrong? Matrox
Mill II 8MB. Asus SC875 (Symbios '875 SCSI). Adaptec 2940. Intel 10/
100B. AOpen AW37. And STB 4-COM.

Oh, I agree, I expect the AW37 works perfectly, and I'm having a PC
related problem convincing your driver to do the right thing. I skimmed
thru the Crystal Semiconductor PDF manuals before purchasing. If memory
serves me correctly the only difference between CS4235 and CS4237 is
the CS4235 (on AOpen's AW37) doesn't have hardware wavetable support
which the CS4237 (on AOpen's AW35) does.
The card did play nicely once when the PCM driver thought it was a
SoundBlaster.
Isn't that Just Like A PC Shop to cross up the numbers like AOpen did?
Got 35 and 37 exactly crossed.
Next time I get the notion to reboot I'll go visit NT and see if it will
tell me something I didn't know about my AW37. And we'll see if it
survived my BIOS reconfig.
