Hi, I'm a bit new new to freebsd (or unix for that matter), and I'm try to install version 4.4lite, and I'm receiving a panic message.
I have an AMD ahtlon with 64 pc100 a generic graphics card with a sis s3 CSET, and no cards aside from this cheapo ethernet that my cableinternet uses (which I am 100 percent certain is causing the problem)
The first time I installed it, it installed perfectly (with a d-link 10/100).
I wanted to reinstall it however (yes for no particular reason) and of course it paniced...
the only thing that has change is the ethernet card....now I havnt gotten a chance to take it out yet but I know its going to work...my questions are these :

what does the below panic mean exactly, and where is there a database that lists common panics, and the exact order in which
things get compiled and configured during the install. Oh and if possible...can I configure the kernal initially somehow so that it doesn't panic, so I can keep my cheapo ethernet card? (even if I have to modify the kernels code I would still like to know)...ahh, and one more question (sorry) ...how can I dump panic info (during the install of course) to a file (or serial port) so I don't have to hand type these in the future?

(here it is as well as the text before it):
preloading elfkernal ...blah
probing for devices on pci bus 0 ...blah
chip 0 host to pci bridge...
chip 1 pci to pci...
chip 2 pci to isa...
ax0: asix ax88141 10/100basetx rev 0x10int a irq 12 on pci 0,14,0
ax0: ethernet address (my mac)

ifmedia_set no watch for

0x0/0xffffffff
panic:ifmedia_set

Thanks for your time
Adam
