The touchpad on this one works fine, but otherwise I may have gone from the frying pan to the fire! First of all, the ESS1988 audio chip isn't supported (OSS have Linux support only, and say they will have FreeBSD support around January). Then there is a Conexant LANfinity chip, which is both a 10/100 Ethernet and a 56k modem combined - which also isn't supported. I'm trying to get some tech docs out of Conexant so I can at least have a stab at writing a driving for the Ethernet part. Until then I'll hang on to my 3Com PCMCIA NIC. Of greater concern to me is the fact that FreeBSD doesn't seem to recognise the APM BIOS on this laptop. I have the apm driver configured into the kernel, and /dev/apm exists, but any attempt to run an APM related program returns a "/dev/apm: device not configured" error (and needless to say, commands like "halt -p" don't work). grepping for apm in the output of dmesg returns nothing. I know very little about APM, but I thought it was supposed to be a standard. Or am I living in a dreamworld?? respect gram -- Dr Graham Wheeler E-mail: gram@cequrux.com Director, Research and Development WWW: http://www.cequrux.com CEQURUX Technologies Phone: +27(21)423-6065 Firewalls/VPN Specialists Fax: +27(21)424-3656 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
