Back in 386BSD+patchkit days I changed inetd(8) so that you could
write Tcl scripts in inetd.conf, and let them decide what you wanted
to happen.  It did everything tcpwrappers did, and then some.

Can you elaborate that one ?

Do you mean "setuid programs" or "500 root programs" ?
