Try systat -vmstat.  This will show you counts of interrupts/sec being
processed in addition to a CPU graph, process count, and loads.  This may
give you a better idea of what is happening.  You can also run top in one
virtual terminal and systat in another, so you can get a quick look at the
process list.  An explanation of the data shown by systat -vmstat is
available in the systat man pages.
