Kick all your users off the system, then do this (as root)

kill -9 `cat /var/run/sendmail.pid`
cd /var
mv -f mail/* /usr/spool/mail
rm -rf mail
ln -s /usr/spool/mail mail
chmod 755 /usr/spool/mail
/usr/sbin/sendmail -bd -q30m
